Recycling: It’s the Law

Recycling is mandatory for Town of Bloomsburg residents, businesses, schools, offices, multi-family housing units, and organizers of special events. The Town of Bloomsburg was the first community in Pennsylvania to provide curbside collection of recycling starting in August of 1977.

#1 Plastic Bottles

Includes ALL soda, water, ketchup, mayo, dressings, cleaners, bottles & more.

Look for the dimple on the bottom of the 1 in the arrows

#2 Natural

Includes water, milk & tea jugs without color. Also, small tea bottles & windshield fluid jugs.

Does not include white or yellow milk jugs, or Arizona tea gallon containers.

#2 Colors

Includes detergent bottles, cleaners, white or yellow milk jugs, and coffee.

NO oil or antifreeze containers, no toys, furniture, or non-bottle

#3-7 Plastics

Miscellaneous plastics: butter tubs, yogurt containers, sour cream, medicine

NO styrofoam, bags, wrap, hangers, vinyl, toys, or furniture

Plastic Bags

 Now accepting plastic bags – Includes grocery bags, trash bags, dry cleaning bags, bread bags and air packets.

Scrap Metal

Effective 7/29/2021 the Bloomsburg Recycling Center now accepts scrap metal.  Please note, that no electronics or items with freon are accepted.  Acceptable items include small appliances, pots and pans, microwaves, file cabinets, chains and bicycles, and other metal items.

Curbside Recycling

Curbside Recycling Collection occurs every other week. Separate each item in a separate bin or box for collection and set it out at the curb by 7:30 a.m. Do not use plastic bags to separate recyclables.

Monthly Cardboard only collections areas 1-2-3 first Thursday areas 4-5 second Thursday of each month.

Plastic

#1 and #2 plastic bottles & jugs ONLY (soda, milk, detergent). Empty and rinse, discard caps and lids, and flatten. NO plastic bags, ice cream buckets, yogurt cups, motor oil bottles, butter tubs, or non-bottle plastic packaging

Newsprint

Newspapers, Bundle or bag (paper bags only). No magazines, junk mail, or phone books.

Metal Cans

Now includes both steel and aluminum cans in one bin. All cans must be emptied and rinsed. No foil, pans, or aerosol cans.

Cardboard

Curbside cardboard-only collection schedule: Areas   1-2-3 are collected on the first Thursday of every month and Areas 4-5 are collected on the second Thursday of every month.

Note: Check the calendar for changes during holiday weeks.

Clear Glass

All bottles and jars must be emptied and rinsed, and all caps and lids removed. NO window panes, light bulbs, mirrors, or ceramics. KEEP SEPARATE FROM COLORED GLASS

Colored Glass

Includes Brown, Green and Blue bottles and jars must be emptied, with caps and lids removed KEEP SEPARATE FROM CLEAR

Magazines, Catalogs, Junk Mail, and Pasteboard Boxes

Includes cereal, tissue, pasta, & shoeboxes. Also includes phone books. KEEP SEPARATE FROM NEWSPAPER, DOES NOT INCLUDE CARDBOARD BOXES — see special cardboard-only collection schedule

Bloomsburg Compost Site

LOCATED AT THE CORNER OF SANDS AND ELEVENTH STREETS IN THE TOWN, ALL ENTERING VEHICLES MUST ACCESS THE SITE FROM SANDS STREET. STOP AT THE ATTENDANT BOOTH TO SHOW YOUR ID TO VERIFY THE ADDRESS AND THEN PROCEED TO THE DROPOFF AREA OR LOADING AREA. THERE IS A $10.00 FEE FOR ALL NON-TOWN OR SCOTT TOWNSHIP RESIDENTS.

MULCH OR COMPOST (WHILE AVAILABLE) MAY BE PICKED UP. LOADING IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE RESIDENT.

UPON COMPLETION OF DROP OFF/PICKUP, PLEASE EXIT TO THE EASTERN GATE ONTO 11TH STREET. DO NOT ENTER FROM 11TH STREET.
