Bloomsburg– As a reminder the Town of Bloomsburg Norris E. Rock Memorial Pool located at the corner of Ft. McClure and Catherine Streets will not open in 2018.
The Town of Bloomsburg remains committed to the plan laid out in 2016, which was to keep the pool open for the 2017 season and kick off a citizen group to fundraise for the future pool renovation and repairs.
A 501C nonprofit pool fundraising committee was established under the Town Park Improvement Association to spearhead the project. This citizen led group meets regularly on the second Wednesday of every month at Town Hall. The group has met with a design company and has even paid for artistic renderings of a remodeled pool based upon the public input it received. A concept that includes adding a zero-entrance walk-in area that also has an ADA compliant ramp and many added features such as water spouts and play features.
The Town of Bloomsburg, in January of 2018 was approved for $200,000 for a Pool Renovation grant from the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. This award requires matching funds of $200,000 to be secured. The grant funds are good for four years. The grant funds and matching contribution are still well short of the projected cost to renovate and repair the pool. A design company prepared plans for a renovated pool with the added features at an estimated cost of $950,000.
The Town invites everyone interested in the future of the Norris E. Rock Memorial Pool to come to the council work session for a public forum and input. All citizen who wish to provide input should contact Bobbi Erlston at (570) 784-7703 to be added to a list. The meeting will occur on Thursday, March 1st at 6:30pm in Council Chambers.
