Picture this, you take a trip to your local grocery store to buy food. What do you buy? Do you buy fresh fruits and vegetables? Or, chicken or beef? Milk and eggs? These items and many more are products of farming. Scientists can trace the act of farming all the way back to 9000 B.C. Farming can produce a large amount of product, which is usually sold to grocery stores around the nation. Farming can also be produced on a smaller scale, which are usually grown for families and local farmers markets. There are thousands of farmers markets all across America, including our downtown Bloomsburg. Annually, from the end of May to the end of October, vendors such as Ponduce Farms, Cramer’s Valley View Growers, Stillwater Canning Company, and many others, sell their home grown and homemade products in our Market Square. Bloomsburg residents and visitors from other towns come to the Bloomsburg Farmers Market to purchase fresh products such as fruits, vegetables, baked goods, fresh meat, eggs, and other farmed products. This year the Bloomsburg Farmers Market will be open on every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 7:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. Opening day is May 26th and will run until October 30th. Make sure you stop by to support your local farmers.
