The Bloomsburg Area Community Foundation was created in 1996 by the Bloomsburg Town Council. The initial funds for the Foundation were created by the interest payments which the Town of Bloomsburg received from a loan made to Magee Industrial Enterprises Inc. with monies which the Town received as part of an Urban Development Action Grant from the Federal Government.
Since then the Board of Directors, composed of representatives from varied organizations and governmental entities (Town Council and the Bloomsburg Area School District) has made annual grants to worthy applicants within the greater Bloomsburg area with the goal of helping to enrich the lives of area residents whether through funding for a soup kitchen, a little league backstop, to educational supplies and programs provided by the Columbia County Child Development Program, the Columbia County Historical Society, and the Children’s Museum.
Since 1998 the Foundation has made 140 awards totaling over $181,503.45.
